DOMESTIC TERRITORY OR ECONOMIC TERRITORY:

It refers to the political frontiers of a nation within which person, capital, and goods & services can move freely.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN DOMESTIC TERRITORY?

  1. Ships and aircraft are owned and operated by normal residents between the two countries.

Example

  • Vistara aircrafts operating from Pakistan to Nepal is part of the economic territory of India.
  •  British Airways operating from us to India is part of the domestic territory of the UK.
  • Emirates aircraft operating from Canada to New York is part of the domestic territory of Dubai.
  • Fishing vessels, oil, and natural gas rigs, and floating platforms operated by the residents of a country in the international waters where they have exclusive rights of operations.

OCEAN BOUNDARIES IF UPTO 20 NAUTICAL MILLES ACCORDING TO “UNCLOS”.

Example

  • Fishing boats operated by American fishermen in the international waters of the Pacific Ocean are part of the domestic territory of the USA.
  • Embassies, consulates, and military establishments of a country located abroad.

CONSULATE IS AN OFFICE OR BULIDING USED BY CONSUL.

CONSUL IS AN OFFICER COMMISSIONED BY GOVERNMENT TO RESIDE IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY TO PROMOTE THE INTEREST OF THE COUNTRY TO WHICH HE/SHE BELONGS.

  • The Indian embassy in Pakistan is part of the domestic territory of India,
  • The American embassy in India is part of the domestic territory of the USA.
  • The military office of India in Libya is part of the domestic territory of India.
  •  The American consulate in India is part of the domestic territory of America.

  1. Embassies, consulates, and military establishments of the foreign country.

Example:-

  • The French embassy in India is not a part of the domestic territory of India.
  • The military office of Russia in India is not a part of the domestic territory of India
  • The Consulate of us in India is not a part of the domestic territory of India.
  • International organizations like the United Nations Organization (UNO), World Health Organization (WHO), International Momentary Funds (IMF) are located in the boundaries of a country.
